Observations/Opinions Game 1 vs FAMU

I havent posted anything on the blog in awhile (but I do keep the Bleed Orange & Green facebook up to date) So I decided to do a little write up on each game which is strictly opinion based.

Game 1 vs FAMU

Overall I was pretty impressed with this game. The first team offense literally looked like they could do whatever they wanted and easily marched down the field every possession that they had. This receiving core proved why they could be so dangerous. The offensive line played great as Jacory had a ton of time to throw and the running backs had some holes to run through. Berry looked solid and Lamar Miller is fasssssssssstttttttttt. I wish we could have got a look at Storm this game but he sat out for undisclosed reasons. Good to see Coop out there 2nd half, although, I dont agree with him returning punts after coming off an ACL injury. Oh and once again, if Jacory goes down this year, we are in DEEP trouble.

Special teams looked improved, Bosher sent the ball into the endzone the majority of the kickoffs, and if not to the 5 yard line at least. Kickoff coverage looked solid and improved from last year. I actually like having a variety of kick and punt returners, although, I dunno if they will be rotating all year, but maybe. We will house a couple kick or punt returns this year for sure.

Defense was iffy at times but got the job done. I remember getting frustrated at a couple of long gains by FAMU which was usually a result of missed tackles. We need to improve in that area. The FAMU QB had some running skills and got the best of us a couple of times, which worries me a bit going into the game vs OSU and T. Pryor. Our D Coordinator definitely needs to focus on this along with making tackles. Our D Line looked crazy fast and used nice techniques to get past the OL and pressured the QB most of the night. O.Vernon had an outstanding game, along with the whole DL. LBs were fine, Spence made some good plays. Secondary looked pretty good, got beat a couple times but were solid most of the game. And Ray Ray Armstrong will be a beast, VT had an off game but I am confident he'll be back. We may have the best safety duo in the nation by the end of the year. Oh and Corey Nelms can lay the wood, another big hit on defense this game.

OSU will be our toughest game for sure, Virginia Tech 2nd, and FSU 3rd. I see 3 losses at WORST for this team and obviously an undefeated season at best and we should compete for an ACC title. Clemson is overrated, NC may not have their star players, Pitt is overrated as well (lost to Utah 1st gm) and we know how to prepare for GT now and the rest should be easy. Again, just my opinion.... -Fezz-
